SEARCH ENGINE OPTIMISATION
Sherpa is pleased to announce their newest member of staff, Wouter Kritzinger. Wouter joined Sherpa in January 2010. Before this he studied and worked at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT), where he completed his Masters in Business Information Systems (BIS). For the past 7 years he was employed as a research assistant in the Faculty of Informatics & Design where he researched Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) elements and their effect on websites. Wouter is also well published in the field of SEO. He has presented numerous research papers on the topic of SEO at the South African Annual Conference on World Wide Web Applications (ZA-WWW).
Wouter's primary task at Sherpa will be SEO. SEO can broadly be described as the process of altering various elements on a given website so that the website will achieve higher ranking with search engines. However, the algorithms used by search engines are a closely guarded secret and also ever changing. Everyday Internet users are performing millions of searches with the help of search engines to find information, products or services. It would therefore make sense that website owners would want their websites to perform well with search engines so that they will be able to reach these millions of potential clients. That is where Wouter's SEO skills can help.
Basically there are two approaches to SEO, the first of which is the so-called white hat techniques. This refers to legitimate, ethical methods to increase ranking. The second method is referred to as black hat techniques, the aim of which is to fool the search engine into believing that a website deserves a higher ranking. Black hat techniques are a risky business and will likely lead to a website being blacklisted with search engines. Sherpa will adhere to only the ethically acceptable methods of doing SEO, which have been proven in the past to deliver sustainable ranking with search engines.
